The Suckling Animal and the Nursing Effects

As the frequency of nursing increases, so does the production of milk. Asthe frequency of nursing is reduced, the production of milk continues and mother's bag will gorge and cause a great deal of pain and discomfort for her. The process of nursing momentarily reduces the size of the bag; therefore, relieves the mother's pain and discomfort.

Some adult animals will tolerate a great deal of discomfort from the EZEE WEAN halter and strap, and will allow its young to nurse. Do not become alarmed. This is natural. The product is named EZEE WEAN, not cold turkey. After a period of time, the mother's gorged bag will reduce in size and the attempts to nurse will become more annoying and uncomfortable for both. After two to three weeks, you will observe the reduction of the bag size or drying up of the bag. The length of time for the mother's bag to dry up varies from animal to animal, six weeks is typical.

Weaning Foals - When to Start

The caregiver of the animals must use his or her observation and wise judgment to determine the optimum time to wean. Personal observation of the well-being of animals and foal's personality are the determining factors for when to wean. Is the mother thin or in poor health? Is the foal healthy and has it developed socially? Is the young animal able to move amongst the other herd animals independently? It is best to wean the foal's at its optimum time of four to six months of age and when both animals are healthy. Your observation and wise judgment are needed to determine the natural optimum time to wean and appropriate age.

Weaning Foals - Preparation

Provide a safe environment, free of obstacles a haltered animal could get caught on. Fencing should function according to the way it was intended to perform.

Good diet is essential during the while weaning your foal. Sometimes weaning can be disruptive to the diet. Fresh water needs to be available at all times. A diet supplement should be considered to ensure continued good health and proper growth when weaning foals.

Appropriate timing, proper preparation, healthy diet, and use of the EZEE WEAN halter and strap will makes weaning foals easier.

The EZEE WEAN halter and strap is a natural and less stressful way to wean foals.
